Primary Curriculum
The primary department at Priestley Smith is made up of four classes, including the Foundation stage. We follow a 'stage not age' approach, which means that we place our pupils where they are best able to access learning that is appropriate to their level of development. The Primary curriculum is linked closely to the National Curriculum and is enhanced by additional tuition in independent living skills, supported by an on-site habilitation team.
Our pupils access their learning through a variety of resources designed to both support their learning and develop their independence. An important part of this is regular opportunities gain first- hand experience of the world through educational visits.
As with the rest of the school, Primary staff work closely with parents and a range of other professionals such as physiotherapists and speech and language therapists to maximize the potential of each child.
